DID YOU KNOW?
The average person has approximately 150-200 natural eyelashes per eye (on their upper lid). Did you know we naturally shed between 1-5 natural lashes per day?! That's up to 50 lashes in 2 weeks and up to 75 is 3 weeks.
Our lashes grow in 4 phases of growth.
- Anagen (Growing Phase) This is the phase where your lashes are growing. They will normally only grow to a certain length, and the process lasts between 30 and 45 days. The daily growth rate of a lash is 0.12–0.14 mm
- Catagen (Transition Phase) When the lashes have reached their designated lengths, they stop growing and the hair follicle begins to shrink. If an eyelash falls out or is being plucked during this phase, it won't start growing back until the phase has run its course. Normally within 2-3 weeks.
- Telogen (Resting Phase) This is the longest phase of the life cycle, and it typically lasts more than 100 days. The eyelash will eventually fall out during the telogen phase, and it normally takes 4-8 weeks before a new one starts growing
- Exogen (New Hair Phase)This is part of the resting phase where the old hair sheds and a new hair continues to grow. This is considered to be normal hair shedding.
Twice per year, we all go through a major shedding cycle, once during the fall and again in the spring. This is a real thing. We lose more lashes than the usual during these seasons. Other factors that contribute to varying shedding from person to person is your metabolism, medications/drugs you're taking, hormones, and even some health issues can cause more frequent shedding. So, if you shed more than you typically do, don't panic! Just be sure to book a slightly longer appointment for your next fill, or book a bit sooner than you typically would.
As your lashes naturally shed and grow, your extensions shed and grow out. This is why proper isolation is key to natural lash health! Because all lashes are growing at different paces, the lashes in the Anagen (growing) phase, will prematurely pull out the lashes that aren't, if they're stuck to them.
During the fill, we remove the grown out extensions and loose extensions, and replace them with new extensions, as well as lash the new growth lashes that have grown in.
